Some of us will go through drastic, unnatural measures to have “healthy” hair. It also shocked me how people were using poisonous chemicals like bleach in their child’s bath water to treat their eczema. So I put together this little article on natural alternatives to treat hair and skin.
Almond Oil- For the hair, almond oil adds shine, prevents hair loss, promotes growth, and soothes the cuticles. For the skin, it serves as a great emollient and moisturizer, leaving it super soft. It evens out one’s skin tone, and gets rid of dark circles under the eyes. It also clears up rashes, fights against aging, relieves itching, rids the skin of irritation, and soothes burns.
Castor Oil- For the hair, castor oil can serve as a great deep conditioner. It coats the hair shaft, seals in moisture, and smoothes the cuticles. For the skin, castor oil is great for abrasions, cuts, itching, lesions, ringworm, sunburns, and warts. It is also known to prevent stretch marks.
Chamomile Oil- For the hair, chamomile oil helps prevent a dry scalp, and strengthens the hair follicles. It can be used to lighten fair colored hair. It is also used to treat skin conditions caused by allergic reactions, acne, burns, blisters, dryness, itching, eczema, psoriasis, and wounds.
Coconut Oil- Coconut oil can easily penetrate through the hair shaft. It also gets rid of dandruff, and promotes regrowth in hair that has been badly damaged. For the skin, it’s known to fight against aging, dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis.
Eucalyptus Oil- For the hair, eucalyptus oil fights against hair loss. For the skin, this oil is known to treat skin conditions like burns, chicken pox, cuts, herpes, inflammation, measles, skin infections, and wounds. However, excessive use of this oil is not permitted, as it may cause headaches.
Geranium Oil- For the hair, geranium oil can be used as an insecticide against *gasp* head lice! For the skin, geranium oil fights aging, acne, boils, burns, cuts, ringworm, and wounds. It can also serve as a repellent, keeping bugs like mosquitoes from biting into the skin.
Jojoba Oil- Jojoba oil seals in moisture, promoting soft cuticles. For the skin, jojoba oil moisturizes and softens it. It reduces the appearance of blemishes, stretch marks, and wrinkles. It also fights against skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis. It can also unclog pores and restore the skin’s natural pH balance, which is why it’s idea to use for makeup removal.
Lemon Oil- For the hair, lemon oil prevents dandruff, and adds sheen. It also fights against acne, and reduces cellulite in the skin. This is one of the most recommended oils for oily skin
Make sure to check back for the next issue, where we will discuss eight more natural oils, and how they work on skin and hair.

This is really helpful! I don’t have a perm, but I wear a partial weave (for a wild style), and I need something to help my real hair stay healthy. It’s been really dry, and now I know what to try.
